Dear readers,
Welcome back! We hope you’ve had a lovely start to the year. Artists devote their lives to capturing it, mothers pour it into their home-cooked meals, and scientists wrack their brains in an attempt to understand it. For this issue – 430: Love, we invite you to consider what it truly means to love.

“More than just embracing the one you love, it is a declaration of trust; a conversation only possible between two partners.” – Tan kicks off our ‘Love’ issue by highlighting the importance of physical touch in the digital age. In her heartfelt piece, Ayla explores the idea of legacy, and how the things we cherish, keep, and inevitably leave behind reflect who we are. Then, Katie takes a nuanced perspective on relationships and commitment, discussing marriage, Esther Perel, and cross-cultural differences. Why are we so unwilling to give ourselves the same love we freely extend to others? Tanvi discusses this double standard in the context of self esteem and societal pressure. Sara follows this by holding a mirror up to ourselves: “We strive to be the best in academics, only to confront the reality that this pinnacle doesn’t exist. Instead, the pursuit is about being your best, a definition unique to each individual.”
As for our columns: Magda reviews Susan Golombok’s ‘We Are Family’ that looks at families from a data-driven perspective, and challenges the notion that there is one traditional family model to adhere to. For The Corridor, Vadim asks two students to share their first experiences with love, where it began, and what it taught them. Julia reviews and analyses the themes of the hit series ‘Fleabag’, based on the award-winning homonymous play. To close, Laura ponders the famous four-lettered word, and constructs a more reality-bound definition of the meaning of love to her.
